Make a Difference to a Child’s Future: Become a Governor at Springwell Lincolnshire

Are you passionate about improving the lives and educational opportunities of children in our community? Do you have the enthusiasm and commitment to contribute to the success of our academies? Springwell Lincolnshire is looking for dedicated individuals to join our Local Governing Bodies and help shape the future of our students.

At Springwell Lincolnshire, our governors play a vital and strategic role in the life of our four alternative education academies. As part of the Wellspring Academy Trust, our governors provide essential support and challenge, ensuring that we deliver the best possible educational outcomes and pastoral care for every child.

This is a rewarding opportunity to use your skills and experience to make a tangible impact, helping to create a supportive and aspirational learning environment where our students can thrive.

What is the Role of a Governor?

As a governor at Springwell Lincolnshire, you will be part of a team that works closely with the academy leadership. You won’t be involved in the day-to-day running of the academies, but you will provide strategic oversight. Key responsibilities include:

  • Setting the Strategic Direction: Working with the senior leadership team to establish the vision, values, and strategic goals for the academies.
  • Holding Leadership to Account: Acting as a critical friend to the Executive Principal, and Executive Vice Principals, monitoring educational performance and ensuring accountability for results.
  • Overseeing Financial Performance: Ensuring the academies’ financial resources are managed effectively and in line with our objectives.
  • Championing Our Students: Being a passionate advocate for the students at Springwell, ensuring their wellbeing and personal development are at the heart of all decisions.

Who Can Become a Governor?

You don’t need to be an expert in education to be an effective governor. We welcome volunteers from all walks of life, backgrounds, and professions. The most important qualities are:

  • A strong commitment to the welfare and success of our students.
  • The ability to work well as part of a team.
  • A willingness to ask questions and challenge assumptions.
  • The time to commit to attending approximately 6 meetings per year and undertaking relevant training.

We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with skills in areas such as finance, HR, law, marketing, or community engagement, but a passion for improving children’s life chances is the most important attribute.

Please note: All governors are required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Why Volunteer as a Governor?

Becoming a governor is a truly fulfilling experience. By volunteering your time, you will:

  • Make a Real Impact: Directly contribute to the educational journey and life chances of children in your local community.
  • Develop New Skills: Gain experience in strategic planning, data analysis, and board-level decision-making.
  • Work with a Dedicated Team: Collaborate with other committed volunteers and educational professionals.
  • Gain a Deeper Understanding: Learn more about the education sector and the challenges and rewards of alternative provision.

An Opportunity to Shape Our School’s Future: Become a Parent Governor

The role of a governor is strategic, not operational. It isn’t about the day-to-day running of the school, but about providing support and challenge to the leadership team to help Springwell be the best it can be.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Attending full governing body meetings (usually two per term).
  • Acting as a “critical friend” by asking questions and offering a fresh perspective.
  • Getting to know the school’s strengths and areas for development.
  • Making collective decisions that shape the school’s policies and direction.

Full training and support are provided, so you will be guided every step of the way.

Do I Need Special Qualifications?

Absolutely not! We are looking for parents and carers who are passionate about our school and want to make a positive contribution. You don’t need a background in education. The most important qualities are enthusiasm, the ability to work as part of a team, and a commitment to helping our students thrive.

We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences. Your unique skills, whether from your work, hobbies, or life in general, will be a huge asset to our team.

If you are interested – we want to hear from you!
